The fuss around the New Year has always been a strange concept to me. We collectively celebrate the Earth completing a revolution of the sun. The symbolic nature of a new beginning is not lost on me but more often than not this change is superficial or short-term. I'm not sure if anyone I know has held a New Years resolution beyond the first week of January. This isn't a secret either. I'm sure there is some underlying psychological reason that we participate in this charade.
In saying that, celebrating a New Year is becoming a greater achievement each year. If we consider the increasing amount of destructive weapons arsenals governments cultivate and refusal to tackle the climate crises. Our doom would appear imminent but that's been the case for over half a century. Maybe there is a cause to celebrate. Here's to our continued survival.
